Abstract

The use of the mode superposition and direct harmonic solution methods in finite element modeling of piezoceramic disks will be discussed, exemplified with two disks with different D/T (diameter to thickness)-ratios. These methods are known to provide the same results when all eigenmodes in the mode superposition method are included, which is computationally intensive for detailed element divisions. By not including all eigenmodes in the mode superposition method differences between the two solution methods will be experienced. Such deviations will be examined based on the finite element methodology and comparison of electrical and acoustical properties. Deviations will also be studied in light of guidelines mentioned in the literature.
