The signal processing group is one of six groups at the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications. Signal processing, statistical signal theory, information and communication theory are the main academic topics that unite the activities within the group. The main areas of focus are currently telecommunications, speech technology and multimedia as well as emerging activities within wireless sensor technology and medical technology.
The vision is to be the Norway's leading academic group within digital signal processing, information- and communications theory, digital communication, speech technology and multimedia signal processing, and to be on an excellent international level within certain chosen topics within these disciplines. We are to actively participate in education, dissemination, internationalization, industrial innovation and novel application of results within our respective disciplines.
The academic task is to maintain and strengthen Norway's academic knowledge, industrial competitiveness and international visibility within the aforementioned disciplines, with aim to
- develop, disseminate and maintain fundamental knowledge and insight at a high international level within our research fields
- strengthening of industrial innovation and competitiveness, based on application of the academic disciplines as the generic technology within all relevant applications
- educate highly qualified students at MSc- and PhD-levels within our academic disciplines
The group also has an important organizational function, as the coordinating body for education and research within the aforementioned academic topics.
